TÜBİTAK SAGE CELEBRATES

TÜBİTAK SAGE, The Scientific and
Technological Research Council of
Türkiye, Defense Industries Research
and Development Institute were
established in 1972, and is active at
Lalahan Site which is 30 km. away from
the city center of Ankara. TÜBİTAK
SAGE is one of the institute of TÜBİTAK
specializes in the field of defense
industry.

The main function of TÜBİTAK SAGE is
to perform research and development
activities for defense systems
especially cruise missiles, air defense
systems, guidance kits, penetrator
bombs and their subsystems including
engineering and prototype production,
starting with their fundamental
research and conceptual design.

Since it was established, TÜBİTAK SAGE has designed and developed lots of system and
subsystem projects. Furthermore, TÜBİTAK SAGE has introduced and gained many products
to the Turkish Armed Forces inventory. Some of these products are;

Türkiye’s first rocket system TOROS was completed in 1999.
The TOROS missile is surface to surface missile and has
got two variants. The first one is TOROS 230-A type has got
65 kilometers range. The second variant is TOROS 260-A
and has got 110 kilometers range. TOROS is an evidence for
possibility of developing national missile project without
any technology transfer.

SOM (Stand-Off Missile) is the Türkiye’s first cruise missile,
which was designed and developed by TÜBİTAK SAGE. SOM
is an air to surface missile family designed to operate
in hostile environments and to be used against heavily
defended high value land and sea surface targets. SOM
has a range of 250 km and certified to F-4 E/2020 and F-16
platforms by TÜBİTAK SAGE. TÜBİTAK SAGE is the design
authority of SOM and mass production of SOM is within
the responsibility of ROKETSAN. By this production phase,
some of the variants of SOM is in Turkish Armed Forces
inventory.
