It’s not even a matter of discussion that
you have a voice in or dispose in the places
that you cannot reach or access. As in every
part of the World, highways are the heart of
transportation. Highways take place on the
top among the means of transport although
there are lots of alternative transport and
freight means. From this point of view,
building roads with the approach of “let
there be a road for the wheel to turn” as in
the own words of Binali Yildirim, Minister
of Transportation, Maritime Affairs and
Communications, has been outpaced in the
recent 10 years. In today’s current situation,
building roads that ensure driving comfort
that has been developed in accordance with
the international standards, and that ensure
traffic safety in maximum has become the
most important priority. In the highways
in which over 90 billion TL investments
has been made in 10 years, over 45 billion
TL investment has been made for only the
divided highways.

It is obvious that the highway
constructional works in Turkey, which
have stepped into a new age by shifting
to mechanical working period instead
digging tools with the development of the
technology, have gained acceleration in the
recent 10 years. In Turkey, which is a transit
country especially in the area of commerce,
highway investments that ensure safe and
low cost advantage have accelerated.

In this context, 74 cities have been
bisected and interconnected with safe
roads by transforming the corridors, which
are mainly on the East-West axis, majorly
into divided highways. On the other hand,
plans have been made by determining the
routes that will constitute corridors on the
North-South axes and the axes that connect
the North of Turkey to the South have been
started to become divided.
